Other Options

Oh, this machine will cost you.

But, if you’re ready to take the plunge, the Giga 5 will always be there for you in all your greatest moments of coffee need.

The Giga 5 is one of Jura’s most expensive home rated super automatic espresso machines, but it doesn’t come cheap for good reason.

This massive machine houses two boilers, two pumps, and two bean hoppers so that it can simultaneously make more than one drink at a time any way you desire it.

Detailed Review and Breakdown

The Giga 5 has everything we would ever want in a super automatic espresso machine, and then some. This high capacity espresso making superstar will make a large variety of drinks quickly and quietly without complaint all through the workday or busy evening entertaining at home.

Features

The folks at Jura have matched the capacity of the Giga 5 with equal capability. To keep up with the large 87-ounce water reservoir, amply sized dreg bin, and two 9.8 ounce bean hoppers, the Giga 5 is equipped with two boilers, two flow meters, and two pumps.

This increased horsepower is significant since most home espresso machines, even larger capacity ones, only have one boiler, meter, and pump. Two of each major component on the interior of the machine means it can keep up with the demands placed on the outside.

The Giga 5 can quickly brew up one or two doses of a variety of espresso drinks in no time, and be ready for the next order without needing time to adjust water temperature.

Choosing a drink is easy thanks to the large full-color display with corresponding buttons and a spin dial for scrolling through the choices. Drinks available at the touch of a button include ristretto, espresso, long coffee, cappuccino, latte, latte macchiato, and so much more.

Each drink can be fully customized and programmed for brew strength, milk foam type, temperature, milk volume, and coffee volume. Of course, a variety of other settings can be programmed too, such as a timer for each day of the week, language, screen display, auto shut off, etc.

One really unique feature of this machine is the ability to choose coffee from two different hoppers. You can choose to have your drink made with a mix of both hoppers, and you can specify exactly what percentage of your espresso you want pulled from each hopper. So if you set it up right, you can actually get a half-caff beverage.

Ease of Use and Reliability

Finding an espresso machine that’s easier to use than this one may be a challenge. As the options on this machine are limited, you won’t have to deal with confusion trying to figure out how to program a complicated drink.

As long as the bean hopper and water tank are full, all you need to do is push either the ristretto, espresso, or regular coffee button, and off it goes. You can program how long the machine should extract espresso based on each coffee setting. And, you can choose either a 7 or 10 gram shot with the press of a button. That’s it. There’s nothing else to it.

Cost

The Jura A1 is at the higher end of the price spectrum for small, compact espresso machines. This is especially true considering the A1 is lacking any milk steaming capability. However, it is fast, quiet, and made with high-quality parts, as evidenced by its hefty twenty pounds of weight for such a small machine.

If you are interested in purchasing the Jura A1, you will be looking to spend between $700 and $1000.

Who Is This For?

The Jura Giga 5 is the ideal super automatic espresso machine for a large family where espresso is consumed like water, or in an office break room.

It’s also a great choice for a teacup bistro or retail space where coffee service is part of the business.

Our Opinion

Jura Giga 5

The folks at Jura have outdone themselves with the Giga 5.

Yes, it’s an expensive machine, but the price tag is justified by the Giga’s elegant design, ease of use, large capacity, and souped-up interior.

We love all the Giga 5 has to offer from its detailed programmability to its easy to use display, and its adjustable brew dispensers. We even love that it comes with recipes for fancy espresso drinks. We’d recommend this machine to anyone looking for a beast of an espresso maker.

Other Options Worth Looking At

If you just can’t part with that much dough, we don’t blame you. Another high capacity Jura worth a gander is the Jura WE8 Professional. It has only a single boiler and pump, which will keep costs down. But, the WE8 Professional still boasts a 101-ounce water reservoir and 17-ounce bean hopper.

If you want a smaller capacity machine to use at home that’s nearly as awesome as the Giga 5, check out the Jura Z6. It’s got a smaller footprint, but many of the wonderful qualities featured in the Giga 5.
